Cost of living in Hua Hin
A comfortable single life in Hua Hin costs THB 59,600 a month, or $1,812, rent included. The basic version runs THB 30,950 ($941), the luxury one THB 173,600 ($5,277). Those totals are September 2026 and cover rent, food, transport, utilities, insurance and golf. Health cover is the line that surprises people here.

THB 8,500 and THB 27,500 are both real one-bedrooms
The quoted price of a Hua Hin one-bed runs from THB 8,000 to THB 27,500 a month. That spread is not bargaining room. It is geography.
THB 8,500 ($258) takes an older unit in a town soi. THB 15,000–22,000 ($456–669) takes a modern block in town or Nong Kae. THB 27,500 ($836) takes 44 square metres near the beach. Those are live listings, read 9 September 2026.

The basic column buys an older one-bed in a town soi, or a flat in Cha-Am. The comfortable column buys a modern one-bed in the centre or Nong Kae, plus two rounds of golf a week. The luxury column buys a beachfront two-bed or a pool villa, with club membership.
The average local net salary here is THB 15,588 ($474), on the same Numbeo reading. The basic column is twice that.

Two rows are weak. Numbeo lists only a 12 oz water bottle, which does not scale to 1.5 litres, so that range is an observed shelf price. CHECK Neither index prices a 500 ml local beer in a shop, where the observed range is THB 45–60 ($1.37–1.82). CHECK
What costs more here than you expect
- Imported cheese, at THB 300–1,200 a kilo ($9–36) (huahinjapan.com, 12 March 2026). Western food generally runs above Bangkok prices (iamkohchang.com, September 2026).
- Health cover, at THB 55,000–80,000 a year ($1,672–2,432), rising sharply after 60 (iamkohchang.com, September 2026). The Thai retirement extension on a Non-O-A needs THB 3,000,000 of cover.
- A pool. Villa electricity runs THB 6,000–15,000 a month ($182–456), against THB 2,000–3,500 ($61–106) for a one-bed with air conditioning. Some buildings also re-bill power above the national tariff, frozen at THB 3.95 per kWh ($0.12) to December 2026.
What is genuinely cheap
- A street plate at THB 50–70 ($1.52–2.13), and the Dechanuchit Road night market as the default cheap dinner.
- The songthaew, at THB 15 ($0.46) a leg, as at May 2026. It is the only public transport, on one route.
- Phone and internet. Numbeo gives mobile at THB 312 ($9.48) and home internet at THB 640 ($19.45). Together that is THB 952, which is why the basic column budgets THB 950.
- Golf at the bottom of the card. Palm Hills is THB 1,000 a round ($30), or THB 700 twilight, on the rate card valid to 30 September 2026.
Golf moves your budget more than your rent band does
This is the local budgeting mistake. People price the flat, then pick a course by reputation.
Two rounds a week at Palm Hills costs about THB 8,000–12,000 a month ($243–365), all in. The same at Black Mountain costs THB 28,000 ($851) and up. The green fee is THB 2,500 ($76), the cart is compulsory at THB 750, and a caddy at THB 350–400 is compulsory everywhere.
That gap is THB 16,000–20,000 a month. The whole distance between the basic and comfortable rent lines above is THB 10,000.
The insurance line in the table is an estimate, not a quote.
It matters more here than anywhere else in this series. The typical resident is 55 or older, and premiums climb steeply after 60. Get a quote for your own age band.
Families should start from THB 100,000 a month ($3,040) (thailandstarterkit.com, 14 August 2026). Numbeo puts international primary at THB 364,324 a year ($11,075). Hua Hin International School publishes its 2026–27 fees only in a file that could not be read. CHECK
Where Numbeo and Expatistan disagree with us
Numbeo publishes no single-person monthly total for Hua Hin, only line items, so nothing there answers our THB 59,600. Where the two overlap they agree. Its basic utilities figure of THB 2,768 ($84) sits just under our comfortable line of THB 3,300.
Expatistan gives THB 43,235 ($1,314) a month for one person including rent, from five contributors, read 10 August 2026. That is 27% under our comfortable column and 40% over our basic one. Its page returned an HTTP 403 error when we re-read it on 10 September 2026, so the August figure stands. CHECK Five contributors is the weakest source on this page.
Resident accounts land at THB 31,500, THB 58,000 and THB 101,500 (iamkohchang.com, September 2026). The first two are within 3% of our basic and comfortable columns. The third is about 40% below our luxury one. That column carries two lines nobody else models: club membership with eight rounds a month, and international cover at 60-plus. Read it as a ceiling, not a typical bill.
